88TH ANNUAL SESSION

We hope you enjoy our newly designed communique format!

Sacramento Valley Dental Hygienist.

SVDHA needs volunteers to sell scarves. Your commitment would be to sit at the table, at our dinner meetings, and collect the money from those purchasing the scarves.

The board has decided that the income from the sale of scarves will be used to help pay for students dinners and help fund those attending SHORE. A raffle ticket will be given to each attending student and the winner can join us for dinner.

Volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others or a particular cause without payment for their time and services. Its generally intended to promote good or improve humanity, but people also volunteer for their own skill development, to meet others, to make contacts for possible employment, to have fun, and a variety of other reasons…..so volunteer for your own reasons!

Monday, September 13th Franklin Elementary School needs volunteers for screening.
Hours 7:45AM-1:00PM.
Contact Tami Silvera TSilvera@egusd.net, from the Student Support and Health Service Program of Elk Grove Unified School District or Lisa Greenshields lgreenshields@comcast.net

By Alexander H Malick, DMD, FAGD

Sleep is one of the most complex and essential aspects of health in all living organisms. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – Oral Health Provisions and DH

The nations new health reform law – the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) – was signed into law in March, but work on implementing the many provisions of the new law are just getting underway.  Efforts related to the oral health provisions contained in PPACA are at the forefront of ADHA's federal advocacy efforts right now, and state leaders are aware of the issue and how it impacts the dental hygiene profession.

To review the significant oral health provisions that were included in PPACA, you can view the chart that ADHA developed to highlight them here.

http://maxbricio.com/Templates/newsletter/stroke.jpgSTROKE: Remember the 1st Four Letters.... S. T. R. T

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Remember the '4' steps, STRT

S- SMILE -Ask the individual to.
T- TALK-ask them to talk/say something simple: It is sunny out today
R- RAISE- ask them to raise both arms
T- TONGUE- Stick out Your Tongue - If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.
